Three items this month: what a recovery test actually proves, what a digital menu board pays back, and where AI budgets are headed. Each one ends with what to do about it.

SECURITY
Having backups is not the same as being able to restore

Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning: A 2026 Guide for SMBs
Backups and recovery are not the same thing. The guide reports that about 58% of backups fail during recovery, only 12% of organizations hit their target recovery time in tests, and 23% never test their disaster recovery plans at all. The average total cost of a ransomware attack is $5.08 million, with organizations facing an average of 24 days of downtime. FEMA puts closure at 43% of small businesses hit by a disaster.

The Adaptive Take
The part that gets skipped is scheduling the test and having somewhere to restore to. A restore rehearsal needs spare capacity, and when storage gets tight the usual fix is quietly trimming retention, which shortens how far back you can go right when you need the older copy. Adaptive Compression is a one-time project: we assess your data, implement dedup and compression on hardware you already own, and hand it over, so you reclaim space and defer the next storage purchase. Our SOC handles the detection side with endpoint and network telemetry and expert response.

DIGITAL SIGNAGE
Menu board payback comes from faster updates, not flashier screens

FROM THE PRESS • Ledcraftinc
Menu Boards and Drive-Thru Guide
Forrester Consulting modeled outdoor digital menu boards across 150 quick-service operators for Samsung: a 196 percent return on investment over five years, an 11-month payback period, and a 9.1 percent increase in drive-thru order volume. Operators also reported roughly $30,000 in annual printing cost savings per location and a 5 percent reduction in monthly food waste. NPD Group estimates 50 to 70 percent of fast-food sales happen in the drive-thru lane.

The Adaptive Take
Two things decide whether a board earns that payback. First, price changes have to land on the screen and in the register on the same day, or your staff spends the lunch rush explaining the difference to customers. Second, someone has to own the daypart rotation, and in most kitchens that job lands on whoever is least busy, which during a rush is nobody. Our Pro tier is built for governed content at scale, so menu and pricing changes go out under approval instead of whoever has the login. Enterprise adds around the clock coverage.

SMALL BUSINESS IT
AI budgets are growing while the integration work goes unfunded

FROM THE PRESS • Partnerinsight
BCG: IT Budgets to Grow 5.8%. Services Spend Intent Falls 19 Points
BCG surveyed 423 IT buyers in North America and Europe. They now expect 5.8% budget growth, up from the 3.6% they planned in mid-2025. Net spending intent runs +66 for AI and machine learning and +38 for cloud, while IT services fell from +16 in July 2025 to -3, a 19-percentage-point drop. Reported ROI on GenAI and AI agents rose from 11.2% to 13.8%, with high-maturity firms reporting roughly 19%.

The Adaptive Take
The maturity gap in that ROI number is mostly process, not models. Firms getting returns have written down how the work actually happens, so the AI has something accurate to draw on; firms that have not are asking a model to guess at tribal knowledge. Meanwhile buyers are adding AI vendors and cutting services, which leaves the integration and access-control work unowned. Adaptive Reservoir is a private, governed AI your organization runs, on-prem or in the cloud, so your data stays under your control. Adaptive Cadence turns a screen recording into the SOP that feeds it.
